NAEC brings in outside support to help restore tornado-damaged areas
Public Service Announcement
Tuesday, March 18, 2025 thru Monday, March 31, 2025
March 15, 2025 - Salem, Ark. - As of 9 a.m. Saturday, North Arkansas Electric Cooperative (NAEC) personnel have restored service to more than 7,000 members affected by the tornadoes and thunderstorms Friday evening.
"We have all hands on deck to get power restored to our members whose homes and businesses still can accept service," CEO Mel Coleman said. "The damage is widespread, but we are working as quickly and safely as possible."
Approximately 4,900 members remain without service, mostly in Izard and Sharp counties.
Ten Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Inc. (AECI) crews will arrive Saturday to help NAEC personnel in Izard and Sharp counties repair damage. NAEC also will have support from right-of-way contractor Riggs and local dozer/track hoe operators to help clear debris.
Multiple NAEC personnel will continue to assess damage Saturday. Dozens of poles are broken, and more will be found today.
In Sharp County, NAEC has two transmission structures on the Bridgeport transmission line that need to be replaced today before members served by that substation can be restored. Three poles must be replaced to restore service to members on the Evening Shade feeder out of the Ash Flat Substation.
In Baxter County, approximately 250 members are without power in the Gamaliel area. Service should be restored to them today.
Restoration likely will take several days in the hardest hit areas. Due to the extent of the damage, providing an estimated time of restoration for a specific area is not possible at this time. NAEC will post updates as available at naeci.com and facebook.com/NorthARElectric.
As always, NAEC urges members of the public to treat any downed lines as energized and stay clear. Please slow down and move over in work zones.
Members can report an outage by calling (870) 895-3221, using the NAEC mobile app or completing the form on the Outage Viewer at naeci.com.
